ARA-290 (cibinetide) is an 11-amino acid peptide derived from the helix B surface domain of erythropoietin, with a molecular weight of 1,257 Da. It selectively binds the innate repair receptor (IRR), a heteromeric complex of the erythropoietin receptor (EPO-R) and CD131.
Unlike full-length erythropoietin, ARA-290 does not stimulate red blood cell production.
